About Wendy

I was brought up on Flinders island - a “local’. I have deep connections with local families of Flinders Island and can tell you stories going back in time. I’m interested in the study of culture and continue to be an activist. I trained in cooking skills with some of Australia’s well known chefs and have a life time interest in food and wine. Both my sons are discerning cooks too. I have taught in University and schools. For the last twenty years my husband Graeme and I have been running Stockyard Creek, a well known retreat in the Victorian High Country.

About Flinders Island Retreat

The house is new except for the visible brick walls, originally built by Tasmanian artist John Parish in the late 1970's. I bought the 15 acre property in 1999 and created the sculptured bushland to give glimpses of the sea. I first knew the property when it was an open paddock with views to each horizon.  In the intervening years, the trees have grown. Guests are invited to walk down to the beach which is especially inviting at low tide, to see the petrified forest, just like I did as a little girl, waiting for my Dad to return from the mail run to Cape Barren Island.  Loveliest of all is the corrugated iron enclosed garden where a small citrus row dances alongside nasturtiums, a quince and a crab apple with saffron bulbs underneath.  Then there is a pear, an apricot and an apple tree surrounded by garden beds of flowers, herbs, berries and seasonal vegetables.

You are welcome to look at our rates, terms and conditions, situated at the bottom of each of these pages.
