An original Flinders Island dining journey that features locally grown produce, some of it straight from my garden. I also use fresh seafood, wallaby, fruit, vegetables, eggs and honey from around the island.
Experiencing the Flinders Island Show is a happy time where you will meet up with most of the people who live on Flinders Island.
There is a pavilion full of exhibits of their work - artisanal beer, cordial, jams and preserves, cakes biscuits and scones, knitting, sewing, photographs, sculptures and painting.
The Flinders Running Festival is all about getting out and having fun. It started in 2007 as a community fun run and health promotion day and has grown every year since. For many local families it's a way of getting together and celebrating Father's Day. There are no time restrictions or expectations for those who like to take their time but there is plenty of competition for runners who like to test themselves. And of course there is plenty of opportunity for good food, great views and inspiring conversations!
Flinders Flicks founders and organisers Sammi Gowthorp & Helen Carnell have demonstrated their commitment to promoting screen culture on Flinders Island for the past 5 years.
As well as producing Flinders Flicks, they volunteer many hours every year within the community facilitating arts events that are not just entertaining but potentially life-changing for our young artists and media-makers within the community.
The inaugural Flinders Island Food & Crayfish Festival is set to take place on the weekend of the 14th of April, 2018. A star lineup featuring some of Australia's greatest chefs, the festival will centre around a special long lunch that will celebrate the island's beautiful produce. The team will spend five days exploring, diving and foraging ahead of the lunch to bring together an experience that is truly unique.
The third weekend in January is the Furneaux Islands Festival which celebrates island community, culture, food and music with a series of events of three days. Held outdoors with the mountains and vines as background it has attracted local and interstate musicians. This is a great opportunity to try the local award winning wine and food – its a great way to meet the locals and learn something of how the locals live and enjoy and enjoy life!
The Furneaux Islands Festival (FIF), now in its 6th year is an opportunity for the Furneaux Islands communities to come together and celebrate our Island life, our community, culture and the musical heritage. Held annually in January, the festival stages a variety of events over three days at different venues across the Island.
The first Saturday in January is the Emita Sports Day which has been running for over 50 years. This family friendly event includes sack races, three-legged races, Catch That Egg, and the Boat Race.
Le Tour de Flinders is a fun bike ride rather than a race and people of all levels of fitness are encouraged to participate riding as far as they are able. The ride begins at Lady Barron, winds through Lackrana & Memana to Whitemark and back to Lady Barron to end with a healthy BBQ at “Wonderland” just past entry to Yellow Beach.
